From our 2020 Mission Fest Sunday Guest Speakers, Kristof and Stacia Nordin, in Malawi:
Hi all,
On behalf of Never Ending Food here in Malawi, Stacia and I would like to thank you for your very generous donation of $400 towards our Permaculture outreach!
We have spent half of the money on the construction of a rainwater harvesting tank at our Permaculture Manager’s house. This was constructed in conjunction with the Rain Water Harvesting Association of Malawi who received a grant to promote this ‘calabash’ style of tank, which only uses bricks for stability during the construction of the tank, and then the bricks can be removed and used for something else. Our manager used the bricks to build a pen for his chickens. The Rain Water Association covers half of the costs of these tanks, and the remainder is the responsibility of the person or persons for whom the tank is being constructed. These costs included materials, labor, and the housing of a builder for one week, and your donation helped to make this possible.
I am attaching pictures of the tank being constructed. We will use the remainder of your donation to support our ongoing Permaculture training and outreach activities. We currently have three interns who are studying with us and we hope to have them go out this coming week and do a one-day training in a nearby village. Some of your donation money will go towards their transport and lunch.
I have been trying to get a post up on our website about the tank construction and a few other activities that have taken place recently, but WordPress has changed their format and I’m still trying to figure out how to use it. Hopefully I’ll get that all sorted out fairly shortly.
Again, thank you so much for your support!

Thank you to all who came to the Community Fall Festival. We hope you enjoyed the day and we hope to see you next year!
A simple thank you to all of you does not do justice for all your time given into making our 8th Fall Festival a success. Your effort in helping plan and donating items to the bake sale, flea market, jewelry counter, our silent auction and the live auction are very much appreciated.
Our outdoor volunteers need a pat on their back for working again in a "cool" setting. The little ones did enjoy riding in Louie's new wagon and our prized filled new duck pond. Hats off to our 50/50 team making this raffle a "a big one" and to the men who organized the tractor ride and car show and for setting us up and taking things down again. And we can't forget our Farmers Market who are always the first to welcome our guests with a friendly smile.
We need to acknowledge all the gals inside that made our guests feel welcome and at home. Many smiles were seen in the lunch line, having fun at the auction, being the winners on the raffles and of course buying jewelry!
But, our special thank you goes to our Pastor for being our auctioneer. Great job, Pastor, you are amazing!
Blessings to all of you,
Cheryl and Karen

Drive to 500: Coverings of Care
The year 2017 marks the 500th Anniversary of the start of the Lutheran Reformation. As part of the observance of this anniversary the La Crosse Area Synod of the ELCA is challenged to a “Drive to 500…Coverings of Care.” Martin Luther believed in the importance of reaching out and providing support to those in need in our society. A covering of care such as a blanket, quilt, or prayer shawl are a wonderful and tangible way of wrapping someone in Christ’s love.
Churches across the synod are asked to prepare coverings of care. These include mission quilts, fleece tied blankets, and prayer shawls which will be distributed both internationally through Lutheran World Relief and locally through our church.
The coverings of care will be taken to the Synod Assembly in June 2017. Finished articles will be displayed during the Synod Assembly and will blessed at the Sunday worship service.
A Thrivent Action Team at Mindoro and Lewis Valley Lutheran Churches consists of our Quilters, Confirmation students, Sunday school students, and all members that would like to participate in making quilts, fleece blankets, and prayer shawls for Drive to 500: Coverings of Care.
